Disappointed, but…

For the past 3 years, I ran the NIKE Women’s Marathon (or half marathon) in San Francisco. It’s a great event with an amazing atmosphere. It starts in the heart of San Francisco and finishes right by the ocean on the Pacific Coast Highway. A great finish location for a natural ice bath. πŸ™‚

A couple of weeks ago, I entered into the lottery for a place in the race this year. Today I found out that I didn’t get through. I am totally bummed. I didn’t really consider not making the lottery as an option.

Once I got over the first disappointment, I realized that this now opens up my time to run another race during late September and October. And it seems that’s a very popular time for races.

Here is just a selection of races that I am considering now. Given that the NIKE race was a destination race, all destinations are open. πŸ™‚

Sun, 16th September – Farnham Pilgrim Half Marathon (multi-terrain)

Sun, 23rd September – Montreal, Canada Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon

Sun, 30th September – Lisbon, Portugal Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon

Sun, 7th October – Windsor Half Marathon

Sun, 7th October – London Royal Parks Half Marathon

Sun, 14th October – Cologne, Germany Half Marathon

Sun, 28th October – London Run to the Beat Half Marathon

Now I have got the difficult task of making a decision. I am thinking of using weather.com as part of my decision making process.

So after being totally bummed earlier today, I am now kind of excited about finding a new race destination.

Anyone, who can recommend one of these races?

  1. Run to the Beat was brilliant last year!

  2. I haven’t had personal experience of any of them, but a couple of friends did the Royal Parks last year and loved it. I beleive it’s a ballot too though – more opportunity for disappointment! πŸ™‚

  3. Of course I recommend Montreal, Canada Rock β€˜n Roll Half Marathon so that we can cheer you up live πŸ™‚

  4. There is a Wine & Dine Half at Disney World in November if that’s not too late for you. It will still be warm there that time of year. I am not doing it but it sounds like fun!

  5. Sorry to hear of your disappointment 😦 I’ve not run any of those races yet, but I have entered Run To The Beat this year. Previous race reviews are good. Maybe meet up to say hi?! Another one to consider is the Robin Hood Half marathon in Nottingham at the end of September that I’m also aiming for. Nottingham is worth a visit if you’ve never been. Google it for info. Let us know what you decide. Cat xxx

    • I ran the Run to the Beat Half Marathon the past 2 years. It is pretty good. And I am considering to run it if I enter a September race. Would be great to do one other destination race. I’ll check out the Robin Hood race. Sounds like a good one, too. Thanks! πŸ™‚
